The GR5 runs through Valfréjus

The GR5, the great crossing of the Alps, runs through the resort. From the apartment you can follow it to Le Lavoir, then towards the Hautes-Alpes border and the Vallée Étroite pass. It is also the way to the Thabor hut and Mont Thabor (3,178 m), a day’s outing for trained walkers.

With the gondola

In summer, the Arrondaz gondola takes walkers and mountain bikers up to the plateau: easy high-altitude walks, viewpoints over the valley and the border peaks, back down on foot or by gondola. Summer opening dates and times: on the resort website, published in spring.

Trails

The resort offers trail-running routes, from the Avérole and Ribon valleys to the village. Waymarking and route sheets on valfrejus.com.

Towards the Vanoise

Modane, 15 minutes away, is a starting point for the Tour des Glaciers de la Vanoise, the National Park’s iconic trek. The core of the park (Aussois, Bonneval-sur-Arc, Pralognan) is 30 to 60 minutes away by car. Park rules: no dogs in the core area, no picking, marked paths only.

Our tips

  • Start early: afternoon thunderstorms are frequent in summer.
  • Water, cap, windbreaker, ankle boots even for “a short walk”.
  • Maps and guides: Valfréjus tourist information office, [[À COMPLÉTER PAR SAM]] (opening hours).
