The village
Aussois has kept its village heart: a Baroque church, bread ovens, narrow lanes and a view of the Dent Parrachée. It is the commune of the Esseillon forts and one of the gateways to the Vanoise national park.
In winter
A small, south-facing resort, ideal for beginners and families. It is part of the Espace Haute Maurienne Vanoise: the multi-resort pass (Valfréjus, La Norma, Aussois, Val Cenis, Bessans) lets you ski there for a day for a change of scene. Cross-country trails and snowshoe routes towards the forts.
In summer
- Plan d’Aval and Plan d’Amont dams: two reservoirs reachable by car, starting points for many walks (Fournache refuge, Fond d’Aussois refuge, and the Col d’Aussois for strong walkers).
- An easy walk around the lakes with children; picnic by the water.
- Via ferrata routes and paths down to the Esseillon forts below.
Practical information
- By road: about 25 minutes via Modane then the D215.
- Tourist office in the village centre: walking maps and the programme of events.
- [[À COMPLÉTER PAR SAM]] (une adresse pour déjeuner ou goûter à Aussois ?).
